Xtrac Q & A
What is Xtrac?
Xtrac is an excimer laser that is now available for treatments at Coastline Dermatology Laser & Medical Center. The laser delivers UVB light to your skin to treat or calm various inflammatory skin conditions.
Dr. Shannon targets your skin’s redness, inflammation, or pigment changes with 10-12 easy Xtrac sessions. Each session lasts for an average of 20 minutes and is entirely painless. Unlike other therapies, Xtrac is remarkably safe for children, pregnant women, and women who are nursing.
During your consultation for Xtrac light therapy, you’ll discuss your medical history with Dr. Shannon. You should be sure to mention if you or members of your family have a history of skin cancer.
What does Xtrac treat?
Dr. Shannon often recommends Xtrac for skin conditions that don’t find relief with topical products, oral medications, and other treatment approaches. Xtrac effectively treats these three conditions that affect the skin:
Psoriasis
Psoriasis is a chronic skin disease with no cure, but light therapy can ease your symptoms. Psoriasis causes red, scaly skin patches to appear in cycles on various areas of your body. You might get periodic flare-ups with weeks, months, or even years with no symptoms between flare-ups.
Vitiligo
Vitiligo is a skin condition causing your skin cells to lose their melanin or pigment. If you have it, you develop patches of lighter skin on various areas of your body. It can also cause your hair or eyebrows to turn white prematurely.
Atopic dermatitis
Atopic dermatitis, a form of eczema, causes skin inflammation, dryness, itching, and cracking. Certain factors like detergents, seasonal allergies, and dry climates can worsen these symptoms.
How does Xtrac compare to other treatments?
Xtrac light therapy has numerous benefits over alternative treatments for atopic dermatitis, vitiligo, and psoriasis. Dr. Shannon helps you compare Xtrac to other treatment possibilities and treatments you’ve already tried. Xtrac’s advantages include:
- Relief that lasts for months
- Painless procedure
- No need for anesthesia
- No messy or sticky topical products
- Effective on hard-to-reach areas
- No injections
- Low risk of side effects and complications
UV light therapy has long been a great treatment option for skin conditions like psoriasis. Unlike other choices for UV light therapy, Xtrac doesn’t expose healthy surrounding skin to ultraviolet rays: Just the skin that needs treatment.
Skin conditions like vitiligo, eczema, and psoriasis can leave you with a lack of confidence in your skin. To set up a consultation for Xtrac light therapy, call Coastline Dermatology Laser & Medical Center, or book an appointment online today.
